DJ Spinna - Intergalactic Soul
Brooklyn's own DJ Spinna has been on the scene for over fifteen years as a world renowned DJ. He has performed remixes for hip hop artists such as Mos Def and De La Soul and has built a strong reputation on the house music scene as well. On his latest offering, he has assembled a list of some of the top underground soul artists to deliver a very solid album. The title track features the ubiquitous Phonte of Little Brother. Phonte not only displays his top notch rhyming skills but he also harmonizes on the track as well. Stephanie McKay lends her awesome vocal skills to the sublime "Peace and Quiet". This is the kind of track you could vibe to while taking a long trip. Having N'dea on a track was reason enough to buy the album but "Where's your love" is far from the best track here. The beat on this track becomes repetitive but N'Dea lifts the track from beyond ordinary. The highlight of the album is "We can change this world featuring Heavy". This is futuristic soul with a slice of broken beat at its best. Not to mention the soothing vocals of Nicky Guiland elevates the track to another level. The smooth and soulful track "Butterfly" features the totally slept on Eric Roberson. Eric has a very soulful voice and this up-tempo track fits him perfectly. Other notable tracks are "Back 2 U" and "could it be too soon". This is a very satisfying listen not and props to DJ Spinna for pushing the boundaries of soul music.
