Eric Roberson - LeftIs it safe to say that Eric Roberson is
longer one of soul music's best kept secrets? The man has proven to be
a bonafide talent with a string of strong releases like "The Esoteric
Movement", "The Vault vol.1" and "The Appetizer". He now returns with
arguably his best yet with "Left". Eric, whose superb songwriting
skills have been in demand for artists such Musiq and Jill Scott, among
others, has remained consistent and delivers wonderful ballads with a
few up-tempo bangers to keep everyone happy. The opening track "Music"
has a nice Latin flavored mid-tempo feel to it. Aided by fine
percussion work and a tight horn section, Eric starts off with the
verse "Thirteen years in the game, call me a soul survivor".
"Iluvu2much feat. Algebra Blessett" is a nice acoustic tune that has a
laid back groove. Eric may have found the perfect duet partner in
Algebra as they create a little magic on this track. "Pretty Girl" is
another winner that features production by James Poyser and the Late
Jay Dilla. The entire disc just flows seamlessly. It features strong
lyrics and talented musicians that makes it an enjoyable listen from
start to finish. "Left" would make a great addition to anyone's
collection of soul music. Well known on the underground soul circuit,
"Left" may be the disc that propels Eric from soul survivor to star
status. Recommended.
